How to Survive OFF Days as an Entrepreneur

From Stella Grizont, Ladies Who Launch Incubator Leader, New York and New Jersey

Every entrepreneur has her off days. Shipping snafus, internet shut-downs, traffic, grocery bills – it can all get overwhelming and magnify other things bothering you like mistakes or disappointments. But did you know you have a secret weapon to keep bad days from getting the best of you? Tap into it by first removing yourself from the unproductive pity party you’re attending. Then do yourself the biggest favor in the world and start a “thank you” journal. This is something I’ve been doing for years and it has never failed to lift my mood. I start each sentence with “I’m grateful for…” and then I just write and write and write until I feel better. Sometimes if I don’t have time to write I just do it as a meditation, but either way I remind myself not to take anything for granted. I’m grateful for my family, my warm coat, coffee, my supportive Incubator members, and for having a wonderful business partner – and the list goes on and on! The key is to revel in the fact that you’re a very lucky person. Positivity is powerful! It does take work to drag yourself out of a funk, but in the end it goes a long way.

Great message! Every night before I go to bed I go through all the things I'm grateful for and always think positive! I'm an optimistic woman and see that there is a reason for everything and know that even if something goes wrong that there is a good reason it happened. :-)

I am going to take this advise to heart. As a newbie entrepreneur I often get overwhelmed by no longer having a direct set of guidelines(such as on a job) of how to perform my job. I find myself feeling a little lost and feeling like other business owners are swimming just fine, while I'm treading waters. I realize that this is needless comparason, and that does pull me back to what's real. However, I realize that I need to get back to my gratitude journal(haven't written in it for a while). I've been in a little funk for a while and it's time to stop whinning and remember what's important to me. I have so much to be grateful for and sometimes I forget that.

I am currently working on a workbook having to do with your vision, goals, task and manifestations. I am a mom entrepreneur and my four children are all adults, my last child, my son graduated in June of 2009. Here is one thing in addition to being grateful- by the way you can be grateful for those things that have not yet manifested in the physical world. For e.g if your vision for you business is to net $10,000 per month start thanking the Universe for it daily until you allow it to become a physical reality. Getting back to my original though - I found it helpful to make a habit of writing a list of daily tasks (in the evening and prioritizing them) the next day I would focus on the top of the list without stress or worry and what did not get completed became part of the tomorrow's daily task list. I wish you continued success with your entrepreneurial endeavors - you can do this and live the life you love.
