Real Beauty Is...

lately, i've been aware of how scared people, especially women, are of getting older. i guess i never noticed before, but there are a slew of commercials for products to help rid yourself of signs of aging. WHY are we so scared of aging?! i know our society is focused on youth and beauty, that age is some sort of sign you aren't attractive. but why fight something that is inevitable? why don't we embrace it instead of fight it? instead of buying creams that get rid of 'smile lines' or 'crows feet,' can't we embrace WHY we have these things - because we smile and laugh? they are signs of a happy life?
i know i've gotten worried about aging... i try to dress younger, i try to lose weight. but it doesn't matter. i'm never going to be the way i was in high school, and that's ok! with age comes new wisdom about life that you don't possess when you are younger. even though i'm only 27, i still notice how different i feel than when i was 18.
it's just as important to embrace your age as it is to embrace your body.

That's a great question! I wouldn't say I'm scared of aging, but I think I definately want to look young as I get older. I think I feel that way because everyone judges people all the time, young or old and it seems like the uglier and older looking you are the worse the judging and criticism gets. I know a lot of people would say "Who cares what other people think", but it definately is hard to not let what other people say about you get to you. I love to exercise and be fit and even though I'm married I don't plan on "letting myself go" because I don't date any more. I still want my husband to be attracted to me even when I am old and wrinkly! I think with all the commercials and celebrities promoting looking younger all the time it does make some of us scared of aging because they make it seem like it's such a horrible thing to happen to a woman! You are right that those wrinkles from smiling and laughing are beautiful signs of a happy life!! Thank you for posting this!
